In the Essay ,students are asked to write a cogent and clear response based on the comprehension and analysis of a source text , supporting their claims and points about the text with evidence drawn from the pasage. While the source text will be different for each form of the sat, the prompt will be largely consistent in format and wording across administrations, as shown below.

`reasoning to develop ideas and to connect claims and evidence
`stylistic or persuasive elements, such as word choice or appeals to emotion,to add power to the ideas expressed

Your essay should not explain whether you agree with[the author's]claims,but rather explain how the author builds an argument to persuade[his/her]audience.
